 Crystal Chemris

Crystal Chemris has taught at a number of research institutions as well as in private liberal arts colleges, including the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Iowa and Reed College. She received her PhD from Brandeis University.  Professor Chemris is the author of a recent book, The Spanish Baroque and Latin American Literary Modernity: Writing in Constellation (Tamesis 2021) and Góngora's Soledades and the Problem of Modernity (Tamesis 2008), which received favorable reviews in Hispania, Revista Hispánica Moderna, Calíope and the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies (posted below). She has also published critical studies on Spanish Renaissance and Baroque literature and modern Latin American poetry, in the journals Symposium, Hispanic Journal, Revista de Estudios Hispánicos, Cincinnati Romance Review, Romance Studies and Calíope as well as in an homenaje collection for Denah Lida.  Among the courses she has taught are Golden Age Poetry, Peninsular Poetry Survey, Modern Latin American Poetry, Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Hispanic Literature, Renaissance and Golden Age Literature, Spanish Cultural History (18th-20th centuries), Twentieth Century Transatlantic Hispanic Literature, Hispanic Civilization, Humanities, Composition, Conversation and Language.   Dr. Chemris has lectured widely on her work; in Córdoba, Spain at a conference marking the 450th anniversary of the poet Luis de Góngora, by invitation at the University of California-Berkeley, where she spoke on Don Quijote, and at the recent colloquium at Brown University in honor of Carlos Fuentes. She is editor of a special number of the journal Calíope (Journal of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry) on the topic of the Transatlantic Baroque.  For further information on her publications, and a recent cv, please refer to her posts on www.academia.edu.
